WHAT'S INSIDE

What you can do on Android

  • Blank map and pioneered distance

Only the roads you walk are drawn, and new roads add up as pioneered distance. Familiar roads grow thicker, and your rank goes up.

  • Spots

Pin places you like with a photo or a one- or two-second video. A camera with film looks, and stickers cut out of your photos.

  • Area badges

Each municipality you set foot in becomes a badge in the shape of its borders, filling in as you walk it.

  • Videos and doodles

Turn your growing map or a single walk into a video. Doodle a picture by tracing the streets on the real map.

  • Knows how you moved

Tells walking, running, cycling and riding apart, and draws train rides along the tracks.

  • Widgets and more

Home screen widgets, Health Connect, GPX / TCX import and dark mode.

Shared blank maps, the Apple Watch app, destination flags and Someday places are iPhone only for now. PlainWalk Plus — map colours, automatic recording and more — works on Android too.

WHAT YOU NEED

Just three things.

  • Android 10 or later

Any phone with Google Play. That covers almost every Android phone from around 2019 onward.

  • Google Play

Install it from Google Play. There is no account to create in the app.

  • Your usual walks

Tap record on the walks you already take. Not every day — whenever you feel like it.

  2. 2

    Allow location and start walking

PlainWalk works with “Only while using the app” location access. Tap “Leave a trail” to start recording; it keeps going with the screen off, showing your distance in a notification.

  3. 3

Take it on your usual walks

Just use it on the walks you already take. Anything you notice, however small, is welcome.

YOUR WALKS. YOUR PRIVACY.

Your walks are yours.

  • Your walks and photos are stored on your phone and never sent to the developer’s server. No account is needed.
  • Location is used only while you are recording. Background location is requested only if you turn on Plus’s automatic recording.
  • The real-map view uses Google Maps.
