Help us test
PlainWalk for Android.
PlainWalk is a walking app that draws only the roads you actually walk onto a blank map. The iPhone version is on the App Store. To launch on Google Play, the Android version needs at least 12 testers.
WHAT YOU NEED
Just three things.
Android 10 or later
A phone with Google Play. Most Android phones from around 2019 onward will work.
A Google account
Join the group with the account you use on your Android phone. The test build is delivered to that account.
Your everyday walks
Use it on the walks you already take. Not every day, just whenever you feel like it.
HOW IT WORKS
How to join

Join the tester group
Sign in with the Google account you use on your Android phone and tap “Join group” on the Google Group “plainwalk-android-testers”. That account becomes a tester the moment you join. Other members cannot see the member list. Tester group

Tap “Become a tester”
Once the test build is out, tap the button on the test page. The group will email you when it starts. Test page

Install from Google Play and go for a walk
Use it on your everyday walks. Every bit of feedback, however small, is welcome. [email protected]

What we ask
- Three things to watch: are the roads you walk drawn on the map, does recording continue with the screen off, and is battery use acceptable?
- Send anything you notice to [email protected]. Replies may take a little while.
YOUR EMAIL
How we handle your email
- Joining the group does not reveal your email address to other members. Only the managers can see the member list.
- The group only emails you about the test, and you can leave at any time.
- Location data and photos inside the app stay on your phone and are never sent to a server, just like the iPhone version.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
- How is it different from the iPhone version?
- Both read and write the same record file, so your walks can move between iPhone and Android. Shared blank maps and Apple Watch are not part of the Android version.
- Does it cost anything?
- No. The app is free during the test.
- When does it start?
- We are gathering testers now. The group will email you as soon as the build is available on Google Play.
- Can I stop partway?
- Yes, at any time. Just uninstall the app.
